The inauguration ceremony for "The project for the improvement of the Eye Hospital in the District Badin, Sindh" was held on Thursday at the Layton Rahmatullah Benevolent Trust (LRBT) Free Secondary Eye Hospital in District Badin, with the presence of Akira Ouchi, the Consul-General of Japan in Karachi and Saquib Hameed, the LRBT Chairman.
The government of Japan extended a grant of $104,534 to LRBT for building a new operation theatre to replace the old one which was built in 1987. The new operation theatre with surgical equipment will greatly improve the treatment and surgical facilities for the eye patients in Southern Sindh. More than 70,000 eye patients come to this hospital every year, and these upgraded eye-care facilities are expected to provide more than 10,000 patients every year with free access to eye surgical operations in a safe environment.
Speaking at the ceremony, Akira Ouchi, CG of Japan expressed his great pleasure in the realisation of this project and sincerely hoped that the project would provide more people in Southern Sindh with free eye treatment with good quality. Ouchi mentioned that the project was a token of friendship from the people of Japan and that he wished that that support would further strengthen the friendly relationship between Japan and Pakistan. -PR
