Procurement of CNG rickshaws: RTO Hyderabad asked to submit tax record of auto company
Sindh chapter of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has directed the Regional Tax Office (RTO) Hyderabad to submit a complete tax record (2011-2013) including income tax as well as sales tax returns of an automobiles company in Hyderabad to investigate the alleged involvement of officers in Transport & Mass Transit Department, Government of Sindh, in procurement of 1400 CNG rickshaws.
Sources told Business Recorder here on Sunday that NAB has written to the Chief Commissioner (IR) Regional Tax Office Hyderabad on a call up notice for an inquiry under section 18(c) of National Accountability Ordinance, 1999 - inquiry for alleged embezzlement/ misappropriation of government funds in procurement of 1400 CNG rickshaws by officers/ officials of transport and mass transit department, Government of Sindh and others.
According to NAB, officers/officials of Transport & Mass Transit Department, Government of Sindh, and others are prima facie involved in the misuse of authority, embezzlement/ misappropriation of government funds in the scheme of procurement of 1400 CNG Rickshaws for distribution amongst the unemployed youth of Sindh, which tantamount to an offence of corruption & corrupt practices and loss to the national exchequer as provided in schedule thereto punishable under the provisions of the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO), 1999.
