Paramedical staff association took out a rally here on Monday to protest against the Government of Sindh announcement to privatise hospitals. The protest rallies were taken out in all districts of the province. Liaquat Medical university paramedics rally marched from the civil hospital to press club which was led by Sharif Palari, Abdul Ghaffar Memon, Arshad Arain, Mir Mashooq Talpur, Ravi Tamboli, Abdul Ghafoor Shoro, Absul Majeed Jatoi, Muhammad Ali Chandio and Hussain Bux Jatoi.
The paramedical staff raised slogans against the Sindh government for its policy of privatisation and demanded to withdraw the decision. Addressing the rally, Sharif Palari said since last 12 years all Basic Health Units in the province have been handed over to so-called NGO named PPHI which is a wing of the ruling PPP which has usurped all budget of health department.
The PPHI has more than 50 BHUs in Thar alone but what they have made with the people of the area, the scores of children were dying for want of medicines and the PPHI has closed all units. He demanded to cancel the agreement with the PPHI and other NGOs and hand over all BHUs to the health department. He said under a conspiracy, a slight portion of health budget was not being given to hospitals as a result that there was dearth of medicines in hospitals. The participants vowed to save hospitals from being handed to any builder or NGO. They announced to hold protest on Tuesday (today) as well.
