With the arrival of winter season in the city, sale of new and second-hand warm apparels has grown considerably. A visit to different markets of the city would show a rush of people at shops selling new and second-hand warm clothes. Prices of warm clothes which are in great demand nowadays have also increased manifold, compelling poor and low-income group people to go for second-hand woolen apparels being sold at roadside stalls and pushcarts in different parts of the city.
On the one hand, there is a great demand for woolen clothes such as cardigans, jackets, socks and mufflers and, on the other, motorcyclists are also visiting shops and roadside stalls to purchase hand-gloves and woolen caps. Roadside vendors who are doing a roaring business of warm apparels are expecting to do much better business in the next coupe of weeks when the winter season in the city will be at its peak.
A large number of people are also thronging the famous Lunda Bazaar, located on M. A, Jinnah Road, near Light House Cinema, not only to buy second-hand clothes, but also to purchase blankets and quilts which available there in a huge quantity. Meanwhile, schools and colleges students are also seen visiting shops selling sweaters, blazers and woolen socks. Unlike branded woolen garments, local and second-hand apparels are in a great demand nowadays.
Prices of winter clothes have already been increased and they are expected to go up further as the winter season is likely to intensify in the next couple of weeks. Meanwhile, prices of blankets, quilts and heating appliances have also shot up in the city. "We are doing quite good business nowadays and it will gain further momentum in the days ahead," said a shopkeeper of Saddar market. A shopkeeper at Saima Mall said that sale of winter clothes has actually gained momentum after December 10.
