Protection of minorities: Supreme Court expresses dissatisfaction over government report
Expressing dissatisfaction over the report submitted by the federation and provinces regarding steps taken for the protection of minorities, the Supreme Court on Tuesday termed it a mere piece of paper. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk resumed the hearing on implementation of its order given for the rights of minorities and the suo motu case of Kot Radha Kishan incident.
The bench also directed the government to ensure early arrest of the two Maulvis who invoked mob to assemble on the spot of the incident of Kot Radha Kishan tragedy wherein a Christian couple was beaten to death by them after which their bodies were burnt in a brick kiln on allegations of blasphemy.
The court ordered the concerned authorities to register criminal cases against police officials who failed to take legal action against the mob on the spot. The bench issued directives to all provincial chief secretaries, Inspectors General of Police and the Chairman of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to submit comprehensive report in the matter on January 13. The bench also directed the federal government to consider appointment of a permanent Chairman for the National Commission for Minorities who holds high office in the government.
