The Karachi Port handled 94,245 tonnes of cargo comprising 69,157 tonnes of import cargo and 25,088 tonnes of export cargo including 4,851 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 69,157 tonnes comprised of 35,324 tonnes of containerised cargo; 50 tonnes of general cargo; 17,835 tonnes of bulk cargo: 6,500 tonnes of coal; 8,481 tonnes of fertilizer; 2,854 tonnes of DAP and 15,948 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 25,088 tonnes comprised of 18,223 tonnes of containerised cargo; 305 tonnes of general cargo; 4,160 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 2,400 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,851 containers comprising of 2,715 containers import and 2,136 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. The break-up of imported containers shows 649 of 20's and 1,013 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 20 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 378 of 20's and 418 of 40's loaded containers while 136 of 20's and 393 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were four ships namely Sima Prestige, Ashahda, Neelambari and Romanos carrying containers, oil tanker and fertilizer respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were nine vessels viz. PAC Aries, Kota Kamil, Neelambari, Al-Soor-II, Oriental Acacia, Aurora Island, Ionic Spirit, Ikan Sembak and Somerset carrying containers, oil tankers, fertilizer, coal and cement respectively currently at the berths.
There was one ship namely MCT Breithorn carrying oil tanker sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while five ships namely OOCL Shanghai, Kota Kamil, DL Cosmos, Al-Soor-II and Somerset carrying containers, oil tankers and cement respectively are expected to sail on Thursday. There were three vessels viz. AS Carelia, RHL Felicitas and Chemroad Mega carrying containers and oil tanker respectively due to arrive on Wednesday, while seven vessels viz. APL Chicago, X-Press Euphrates, Captain Costas, Deira, Hyundai Jakarta, Bunga Lavender and Yellow Ray carrying containers, chemical and mogas respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
There was one ship namely CV Hanjin Sandiego with containers sailed out sea on Wednesday morning, while another ship namely CV Maersk Kingston carrying containers is expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of five vessels viz. CV Maersk Kingston, CV Hanjin Sandiego, MV Yasa Unsal Sunar, MT Jipro Neftis and MT Lahore currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, rapeseed, palm oil and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as two ships namely CMA CGM Musset and ST Dare with containers and palm oil are at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.
There were two vessels viz. CV CMA CGM Musset and MT ST Dare with containers and palm oil expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Wednesday. There are no ships due to arrive on Wednesday.
