Bilateral trade between Indonesia and Pakistan is all set to achieve a historic milestone as it is expected to touch US two billion dollars mark by the end of this year. Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia Burhan Muhammad stated this at a working dinner hosted by him here on Thursday in the honour of the Pakistani businessmen to review, discuss and exchange views on further strengthening economic and trade ties between the two countries.
Chairman Pakistan-Indonesia Business Forum (Northern Zone) Zafar Mahmood, and government dignitaries were also present on the occasion. The programme began with the observation of silence and special prayers for those who lost their lives in Peshawar school tragedy. Ambassador Burhan expressed his deepest condolences with the bereaved families and strongly condemned the attack.
The Ambassador said that he set the objective of significant improvement in the trade and economic ties between the two countries as his top priority as he started his diplomatic tenure in Islamabad around two years ago. By virtue of concerted and result oriented efforts by the Embassy and all the relevant stakeholders at large the bilateral trade between the two countries is all set to touch US two billion dollars this year, he added.
The Ambassador said that the 2015 will be rather more important year for the Indonesia and Pakistan bilateral ties, hoping that with a new government and Joko Widodo as the new President of Indonesia, having vast business experience and background, will initiate and ensure pro-trade and business policies implementation in Indonesia.
The Envoy hoped that 2015 will see even more serious efforts to push the process of the PTA to become a Free Trade Agreement that will also include an agreement on services and investment. He also announced to confer Indonesian Business Excellence Awards from next year to the members of the Pakistani Business Community in recognition of their considerable contributions in advancing bilateral trade relations. Chairman PIBF Zafar Mahmood, on behalf of the Pakistani businessmen appreciated Ambassador Burhan for all the commendable efforts and initiatives that were now showing desired results on the ground. He also shared PIBF upcoming plans to spur bilateral trade between Indonesia and Pakistan.-PR
