Creating conducive environment for socio-economic uplift: NA body for projection of ministries' achievements
The National Assembly's Standing Committee on Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage on Friday recommended that the achievements of different ministries in creating conducive environment for socio-economic development should be projected and advertised in the media.
The committee, which met with here with Marvi Memon in the chair, discussed the role of information officers in different ministries, including Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs, Statistics and Privatisation; Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication; Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources.
Principle Information Officer (PIO) Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Rao Tehsin Ali Khan, briefed the committee about the role of Information Officers in the above-mentioned Ministries. The Committee was also briefed on the achievements of the said ministries regarding socio-economic development and their projection in media through 'their Public Relation Department'.
The Committee recommended that the achievements of the ministries should be projected and advertised in the media in such a way that a common man could easily understand its impact. The committee further recommended that the ministries may also develop their own Twitter and Facebook accounts, besides updating their websites on daily basis. All the ministries and departments may depute a spokesperson. The Committee also recommended for developing strong linkages among Ministries and their Information Officers.
During the course of the meeting, the committee offered "fateha" for innocent students and teachers who were martyred in a terrorists attack on Army Public School Peshawar. The Committee also discussed the role of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) and recommended that action should be taken against the media outlets for airing live coverage of tragic incidents and airing talk shows against the ideology of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Acting chairman Pemra Pervez Rathore informed the committee that the Pemra took action against media as per Pemra rules on these types of violations.
