Quetta and other parts of Balochistan are without gas supply for the last 24 hours. Though normally gas pressure drops with the advent of winter, a fault that developed in the boiler of gas purification at Sui two days ago had badly affected the gas supply to Balochistan and Sindh to the tune of 110mmcfd. The fault has badly affected the gas supply of major parts in provincial capital and other parts of the province which had either low pressure or no gas at all.
However, around 50mmcfd gas was available form Zarghoon field. Sources in the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) told PPI on Sunday that another 50mmcfd would be added to the system from this plant. Moreover, gas supply to 30 per cent industries in Sindh has also been cut off due to suspension of gas from Sui gas plant.
Similarly, supply of gas to Quetta's Thermal Power and Habibullah Coastal Power plants has also been stopped. However, gas supply to CNG stations and Balochistan's industries has not been stopped, sources added. Asked how long gas supply would remain shut, sources said that 48 hours were required for the repair of the plant and hence the supply would be resorted sometime late Monday.
