Former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday denounced terrorism as a cancer for Pakistan. "Militancy is the biggest challenge being faced by Pakistan," Gilani said while addressing at a press conference in Peshawar after visiting families of the victims of Peshawar school attack. Pakistan, he said, was not prospering due to the menace of terrorism, he said, adding that "We are fighting our own war."
Prayers were offered for the martyrs of the Peshawar school attack before the press conference. Gilani said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government doesn't have resources to fight this war. The attack on school has shocked the nation, he said. PPP Central and provincial leaders also present during the press conference.
To a question, Gilani said Pakistan and Afghanistan were like twin brothers and that two countries should unite to take on terrorism. In addition, the former premier urged politicians to set aside their differences and join hands to deal with the challenge of terrorism. Gilani said the war against terrorism should reach its logical conclusion.
He said the world had not witnessed an attack as ghastly as the Peshawar school massacre.
Former premier opined that the most important objective of the Multi-Party Conference held in Peshawar on Saturday was to establish an understanding that the war against terror is Pakistan's fight and not an internal dispute between two groups.
He said PPP was standing with victims' families of school attack and the sacrifices rendered by the students would not go waste. He termed the attack on school is very barbaric act that was felt in the entire world. He said peaceful Afghanistan was in the interest of Pakistan. He assured full support to Federal Government and PTI Government in this war. He said PPP was struggling for a peaceful Pakistan. Former Minister, Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan said the PPP supported the government fully in the war against terror. He said that the Peshawar school attack was a very tragic incident which had not only shocked the nation but the entire world.
