Users of the Vimeo video platform can now download video images in 4K resolution (at least 3,840 x 2,160 pixels). The first videos available in the new format were two video-on-demand titles To use the function, a person needs a Pro account, which requires a subscription fee.
Anyone who streams films from Vimeo will continue to receive them in reduced full-HD resolution. But the portal says it plans to offer 4K resolution for all streams at some point, according to a blog post. This sets Vimeo on the same path as competitors like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, which began streaming with 4K this year. Of course, to appreciate the higher resolution, users have to own a screen that can support such images.
