The Punjab government has released funds amounting to Rs 1.80 billion to district governments for up-gradation of government schools in the province, Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said here on Monday. He said District Co-ordination Officers (DCOs) have been instructed to consult all National and Provincial Assembly Members of District Co-ordination Committee whether they belong to opposition for up-gradation of schools, appointment of Chowkidar for security purposes and construction of incomplete boundary walls of every school.
Talking to media persons outside the Punjab Assembly Rana Mashhood said that during next three months, boundary walls of all the government schools will be completed in Punjab whereas the incomplete construction works in all 60,000 government boy and girl schools of the province will be completed at the end of current financial year. He told the Punjab government has decided to utilise all development funds of government schools through "School Councils" and elite of the area included in school councils will monitor the quality and timely completion of development works.
Education Minister further said the government has decided to set up 3,300 new schools in backward districts and poor localities of big cities under public/private partnership through Punjab Education Foundation instead of establishing new government schools. He said the government will bear all educational expenses of the poor children getting admission in these schools. This decision has been taken to ensure proper utilisation of the government resources.
