The Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department (L&DDD) has decided to launch a pilot project for ensuring 100 percent vaccination of cows, buffaloes, sheep, goat and poultry in the province besides bringing down prices of 17 types of vaccination from 25 percent to 80 percent. This was disclosed by Chief Minister's Special Assistant on Livestock Muhammad Arshad Jutt while chairing a departmental meeting here on Tuesday.
Speaking at the meeting, he said only 25 percent animals were vaccinated out of total 70 million in the province. He said vaccination production had increased by 300 percent after the upgradation of Veterinary Research Institute after which it was being planned to vaccinate every animal of the province.
He further said initially 100 percent vaccination project would be launched in four districts and on its success it would be replicated in rest of the districts. Work on preparation of PC-I of the project has been started and it may cost Rs 70 to 100 million. Four districts would be covered in one year after which it would be extended to whole of the province. He said check posts of the livestock departments were also being set up at all enter and exit points of each districts and animal owners would be provided a record card after vaccination. Arshad Jutt said prices of vaccination for animals of different diseases had already been brought down from 25 to 80 percent and accumulatively 53 percent on the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif.
