To meet the growing need for higher technical institutions in the country, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has decided to establish Air University in Lahore Knowledge Park adjacent to Defence Housing Authority Lahore. A 4-member delegation of PAF headed by Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Planning and Development), Air Commodore Ghulam Qadir called on Provincial Minister for Education, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan here on Wednesday and discussed acquiring of land for the proposed university.
Chief Executive Officer Lahore Knowledge Park Shahid Zaman and Secretary of the company Asif Bukhari were also present on the occasion who gave briefing to the delegation regarding current situation of Lahore Knowledge Park. The Minister welcomed the project of setting up of Air University by PAF and said that Lahore Knowledge Park is being set up over an area of 852 acre at prime location of Lahore where Punjab government is providing land on soft terms for the establishment of world standard universities and offices of ICT companies.
He said 25 percent area of Lahore Knowledge Park has been reserved for trade purposes. A board of directors of Lahore Knowledge Park Company has been constituted under the supervision of Punjab Education Minister and seven international companies have been short listed as financial consultants.
He said Punjab CM will assign responsibility to the most trusted firm for the preparation of feasibility of this mega project after which its engineering study will be started next month. Meanwhile, Country Representative of UNESCO in Pakistan, Mrs Vibeke Jensen called on Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan and offered setting up of institution of formal education and non-formal literacy centre at a cost of $7 million out of Malala Fund set up by UNESCO.
The Minister assured Director UNESCO that under Malala Project, every project of promotion of education will be completed in a transparent manner and besides non-formal education department of Punjab government Schools Education Department will also extend co-operation to UNESCO in this regard.
