Tight security measures have been taken around the churches and at Christmas Bazaars established for Christians .The security was also beefed up in one of the very sensitive district of Khanewal, Bahawalpur and Muzaffargarh where big villages of Christians and hub of militant groups particularly Punjabi Taliban. The police have devised an extensive security plan on the eve of coming Christmas.
A numbers of terrorists waiting execution came from this district and the district profile indicates massive connection among the banned outlawed militant organisations. "We are aware about the sensitivity and devise an extensive security plan for Christmas. We have held meetings with priests, representatives of Christians to foil untoward incident", Khanewal DPO Rana Ayaz Salim said on Tuesday.
The district police have also removed categories of churches and dealing and providing foolproof security to all churches on equal basis. The churches located in different areas have been divided into sectors. The special vigilant teams of district police would take over respective locations on December 24 night and continue tight vigilance until the culmination of Christmas activities on the next day, the DPO said. The district police have also sought lists of volunteers from Christian bodies in performing joint sessions of law and order duties on Christmas.
Khanewal DPO Raza Ayaz Salim has ordered installation of walk through gates at churches and devotees would be screened before the entrance. The Special Branch would sweep whole places before the services start. The Elite Force commandos and Quick Response Force Jawans were being deployed across the Christmas bazaars. Khanewal DPO also held meeting with Churches' administrators and ordered crackdown on liquor sellers in the district on the demand made by administrators.
