Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has expressed his determination that extremism and terrorism will be eliminated forever and a safe and peaceful Pakistan will be given to new generations. He expressed these views while talking to senior journalists, intellectuals, columnists and anchor persons who met him, here on Friday.
On this occasion, special prayers were also offered for the departed souls of children and teachers who were martyred in Peshawar tragedy.
Shahbaz said terrorists committed worst brutality by killing innocent children in a school of Peshawar which is most horrible act of terrorism in the history of the world. He said martyrdom of innocent children and teachers had shaken the entire world including Pakistan, adding due to the martyrdom of children and teachers, the entire nation had become united and it was high time to take effective and decisive steps against terrorists.
The CM said consensus on national action plan by national leadership was a historic step, adding that political, religious and military leadership had approved national action plan against terrorism unanimously which was a highly welcome and an important step in the political history of the country.
Shahbaz expressed the hope that the challenge of extremism and terrorism would be coped with the support of the nation, adding that indiscriminate action would be taken against terrorists.
The CM said extraordinary decisions and steps had to be taken in extraordinary situation and that was why, that day, the entire leadership had come on one page and the decisions taken by national leadership had the support of the entire nation.
He said motherland would be made a haven of peace by wiping out terrorists. He said the war was of survival of coming generations of the country and expressed the hope that 180 million people of Pakistan would win that war.
Shahbaz Sharif said the role of media was of great importance in the present situation and the nation rightly expected from media that it would continue to play positive role for safeguarding national interests in the war against terrorism. He said earlier, genuine problems of journalists' community were also solved on priority basis and would be solved in future as well.
The CM announced to set up a utility store and centre of excellence in Journalists' Colony, Lahore. He directed to constitute a committee for resolving other problems of journalists. The committee will comprise Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed, Spokesman Punjab government Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Secretary Information, Secretary Higher Education, Press Secretary to Chief Minister, senior journalist and analyst Salman Ghani and Anchor Person Najam Wali. The committee will consider the matters with regard to provision of laptops, soft terms loans for purchasing motorcycles, Phase-II of Journalists' Colony Lahore and issuance of medical health cards to journalists.
Special Assistant Azm-ul-Haq, spokesman Punjab government Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Parliamentary Secretary Information Rana Muhammad Arshad, Secretary Information Momin Agha, Press Secretary to Chief Minister Shoaib Bin Aziz and DGPR Athar Ali Khan were also present on the occasion.
