Umer Akmal, Nasir Jamshed face threat of exclusion: squad for World Cup to be announced next month
While National Selection Committee is looking for different options ahead of announcing 15-member squad for Cricket World Cup-2015, there are probabilities of dropping Umer Akmal and Nasir Jamshed for the mega event, while it is clear that spinner Saeed Ajmal would not be able to appear in the mega event.
The National Selection Committee is expected to announce a 15-member squad for mega event in the first week of January 2015.
Wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal has managed to get selectors' attention in view of his consistent performance in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. Kamran scored 137 in the final apart from showing good performance behind the wicket.
On the other hand, out of form Umar Akmal who is expected to be a reserved wicket keeper in the tournament now has less chances of playing in the world cup. Kamran Akmal, who has been Pakistan's wicket keeper in the last two World Cups is being considered as backup wicket keeper and could be tried as opener. Kamran's inclusion could bring the axe down on out of form opener Nasir Jamshed and pave way for an all-rounder.
Sources reveal that Umer Akmal is at risk of losing upcoming World Cup. Umer Akmal failed to prove his worth with the bat in recent series against New Zealand in the UAE.
Out of form Nasir Jamshed's induction in the mega event is also remote due to his continuous failure.
Sources claimed that there would be no surprises in the 15-member squad. The expected 15-member squad would be comprised of Misbah ul Haq (skipper), Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Irfan, Yasir Shah, Ahmed Shahzad, Anwar Ali, Sarfraz Ahmed (wicketkeeper), Karman Akmal, Mohammad Hafeez, Haris Sohail, Junaid Khan, Sohail Tanvir, Bilawal Bhatti and Sohaib Maqsood.
