Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said here on Saturday that the government has resolved to deal with miscreants with an iron hand. Moreover, the government is also committed to taking all necessary steps to ensure that blood spilled in the Peshawar carnage will not go waste, he added. The premier was presiding over a follow-up meeting on the implementation of the National Action Plan for countering terrorism and extremism.
It was attended, among others, by Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Prime Minister's special assistants Irfan Siddique, Khawaja Zaheer Ahmed, Barrister Zafarullah, Attorney General and other senior officers.
On this occasion, Nawaz Sharif emphasised on seamless co-ordination between the law-enforcement agencies, the federal and the provincial governments to achieve optimum results within a short span of time. The prime minister said that the government will give legal protection to the valiant soldiers of the armed forces in their fight against terrorism.
First draft of constitutional and legal amendments for trying enemy combatants and hardcore terrorists, involved in execution, abetting and financing of mass murders, was presented to the prime minister. He asked his legal team to share the draft with other political parties and take their input. Reiterating to make Pakistan a safer place for every Pakistani, regardless of his faith or ethnicity, he directed that instances of terrorism or sectarian violence against minorities should also be included in the schedule of offences against the terrorists. The meeting was told that NACTA would be made functional and its executive meeting will be convened on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.-PR
