The talks on the formation of a judicial commission between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Saturday led the negotiators to a dead end, forcing both sides to meet again on December 30, but with a slim chance of success. "We know nothing is going to happen from the ongoing talks as the government intentions are not right...they [government] could have formed the commission by now as we'd accepted almost all their demands," said a senior PTI leader who declined to be named.
The visibly perturbed PTI negotiating team headed by Shah Mehmood Qureshi once again held a meeting with government negotiating team led by Ishaq Dar, a close confidant of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and hardly an hour-long sitting announced they would meet on December 30.
PTI secretary general Jehangir Khan Tareen, who is a member of the committee, said there was no major breakthrough in Saturday's talks with negotiating government committee regarding formation of judicial commission and the committees will meet again on December 30.
Ahsan Iqbal said the government and PTI negotiating teams had evolved a consensus on all issues except three clauses on the promulgation of an ordinance for investigating rigging allegations in general election 2013. However, he expressed optimism both side will succeed in finding a solution to the problem in the next meeting. "We'll discuss the drafts with our respective leaderships and I'm sure there must be something positive," he added.
