A delegation of journalists led by President of Lahore Press Club, Arshad Ansari met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday. Development of Journalists' colony Lahore and problems being faced by journalists community were discussed during the meeting.
Talking to the delegation, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said the government is taking keen interest in the resolution of residential problems of the journalists. He said that due to the governmental steps, roof has been provided to 300 more journalists in Journalists Colony Lahore. He said that addition of F-Block in Journalists' Colony is a clear proof of determination of the government for providing residential facilities to the journalists. The Chief Minister said that he would inaugurate F-Block and visit Lahore Press Club very soon.
He said that a centre of excellence and a dispensary will also be set up in journalists' colony for providing quality education and treatment facilities to the journalists' community. Shahbaz Sharif directed the authorities concerned to consider the matters regarding development of commercial area in Journalists' Colony. He further directed that a practicable plan should be evolved by holding a meeting with officials concerned for resolving traffic problem outside Lahore Press Club.
President Lahore Press Club and members of the delegation thanked Chief Minister Punjab for carrying out speedy development works in journalists' colony and progress on other matters. Arshad Ansari said that Shahbaz Sharif believes in practical steps. He said that Metro Bus Project, signal-free Azadi Chowk and other welfare projects are a clear proof of the Chief Minister of being people-friendly.
He said that Shahbaz Sharif has won our hearts by providing shelter to 300 more journalists. Spokesman for Punjab government Syed Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Parliamentary Secretary Information Rana Arshad, Secretary Information Momin Agha, Press Secretary to Chief Minister Shoaib Bin Aziz and DGPR Athar Ali Khan were also present on the occasion. Those who called on the Chief Minister included former Secretary Lahore Press Club Shafiq Awan, Secretary Press Club Muhammad Shahbaz Mian, Vice President Afzaal Talib, Zulfiqar Ali Mehtu, Gohar Butt, Javed Farooqi, President Punjab Union of Journalists Waseem Farooq Shahid, President Punjab Union of Journalist (Dastoor Group) Hamid Riaz Dogar, General Secretary EMRA Nadeem Chaudhry, Farzana Chaudhry and General Secretary Lahore Photo Journalist Association Umar Sharif.
