Islamabad-based writers and intellectuals have said that poetry was something divine and Shaikh Ayaz's poetry was eternal and reflection of all us.
A commemorative gathering was organised in connection with the 17th death anniversary of a noted poet, intellectual, writer and lawyer Shaikh Ayaz under the auspices of Pakistan Intellectual Forum (PIF), Islamabad, in which a considerable number of literature readers, students and others participated and paid glowing tributes to the legendary figure of the country, who wrote more than 50 books on all genres of language and literature.
Noted author, Dr Khadim Hussain Soomro said, "Shaikh Ayaz was a great poet of the 20th Century. His influence on the Sindhi language, literature and society is very much visible and viable.
He was passionately in love with his mother language, motherland and its people.
He spoke of equality, of women and men, of all the world's people. Ayaz is loudly talking about humanism and the promotion of humanitarian values in Pakistani society and the world over."
Professor Dr Qasim Rind said, " Those who read and reflect on his poetry and also prose, they feel and opine that his poetry, l like butterflies in spring, awakens the spirit, stirs the imagination and explores the possibilities with each stroke of its rhythmic wings." Hashim Abro of the PIF, said, "Ayaz's prose and poetry is indeed, a deal of joy, pain and wonder. I have always found his poetry as a great healer in the worst of time in my life."
Ayaz, both in his poetry and actions was a great crusader against social injustice and other social and economic ills and evils such extremism, intolerance, militancy, terrorism etc.
His entire poetry is based on the concept of humanity is above all religions, propounded by his spiritual mentor and godfather (murshid) Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai." On the occasion, Ms Tasleem Naz Abro recited a tribute poem in English for Shaikh Ayaz and also recited a few verses from the famous 'Shah Jo Risalo'.
