Taiwan stocks rose 0.89 percent on Monday, led by gains in memory chip makers and computer manufacturers. As of 0237 GMT, the main TAIEX index rose 81.96 points to 9300.03, largely in line with other regional bourses, after closing flat on Saturday in a special trading session.
The electronics subindex was up 1.16 percent, led by memory chip makers Inotera Memories Inc and Nanya Technology Corp, which rose 4.79 and 6.45 percent, respectively, and helped the overall semiconductor subindex gain 1.71 percent.
Shares in computer manufacturers also firmed, led by global brand Asustek Computer Inc, up 2.38 percent, and its main contract assembler Pegatron Corp, which rose 1.39 percent.
Solar shares faltered, however, with Solartech Energy Corp and Neo Solar Power Corp shedding 2.09 and 2.41 percent, respectively.
Separately, Taiwan is considering raising the limit on daily swings in a stock to 10 percent from the current 7 percent, an official at the island's Financial Supervisory Commission told Reuters.
