Passing out parade of 51st batch of cadets of Pakistan Marine Academy (PMA) was held here on Monday. Director General Ports & Shipping Abdul Malik Ghauri was the chief guest. Welcoming the chief guest, Commandant, PMA Tahir Jamil, said the academy was recognised as a branch of the World Maritime University, and conducts pre-sea/post-sea IMO Specialised Courses and the mandatory STCW courses besides the basic training for Cadets and GP's.
As a result, Pakistani seafarers no longer have to spend valuable foreign exchange to go abroad for their pre-sea/post-sea training.
The Academy possesses the most modern, state-of-the-art equipment and training aids. The Commandant PMA thanked Pakistan Navy, KPT, PNSC, PQA and NED University for their intellectual guidance and material support.
Addressing the cadets, the Commandant PMA pointed out that their training at the Academy was a solid foundation upon which they could build their careers. He urged the cadets to continue with their studies to keep abreast of the changing technology.
He appreciated the achievements of the Pakistan Marine Academy. He pointed out that the government attached great importance to Marine Training and that the Pakistan Marine Academy was a living proof of it. He was pleased to note that the passing out cadets would be awarded Associate Degree by the NED University of Engineering & Technology Karachi. He also congratulated the Commandant PMA and his staff for their hard work and dedication.
The chief guest distributed awards among the high achievers. The coveted President's Gold Medal was won by Cadet M Faizan Khan. The Minister's Gold Medal (introduced from this year by the Minister for Ports & Shipping, Senator Kamran Michael) was won by Cadet M Danish Kamal. The Chief of the Naval Staff Silver Medal was awarded to Cadet Hammad Hassan Tariq. The Anis Medal, instituted by Cowasjee Foundation, was given to Cadet Hamza Said. The PNSC Dagger was won by Cadet Faraz Tariq. The Proficiency Banner was won by Qasim Division.
