JP Duminy, regarded as one of South Africa's key players for the Cricket World Cup in February, returns to action after injury in a Twenty20 international series against the West Indies next month. Duminy has not played since November 9 when he returned home early from a limited overs tour of Australia because of a long-term knee injury which required rest.
Duminy's middle order batting and off-spin bowling were sorely missed as South Africa were beaten 4-1 by Australia in a one-day international series. Also returning from injury is left-arm spinner Aaron Phangiso. Veteran Morne van Wyk returns as a wicketkeeper-batsman in place of the injured Quinton de Kock. Several senior players, including Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel, were not included.
Selection convenor Andrew Hudson said it would be the last opportunity for them to be rested before a five-match one-day international series against the West Indies, followed by the World Cup. South African squad: Faf du Plessis (captain), Kyle Abbott, Farhaan Behardien, Marchant de Lange, JP Duminy, Reeza Hendricks, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Wayne Parnell, Aaron Phangiso, Kagiso Rabada, Rilee Rossouw, Morne van Wyk, David Wiese.
Fixtures:
January 9: Cape Town
January 11: Johannesburg
January 14: Durban.
