Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Friday sought review of intelligence agencies role and demanded an end to operations in Karachi and Balochistan against what it said political forces. Taking part in the debate on the Peshawar massacre in the National Assembly, MQM member Asif Hasnain said the Karachi operation started to exterminate nefarious elements, but unfortunately political workers are being targeted in the garb of operation.
"This House should hold those accountable who have been differentiating between good and bad Taliban. We should formulate a clear-cut policy to curb the menace of terrorism," he said. Hasnain said that political workers of his party were being picked up from their residences and dumped in open places after torture. "The Karachi operation is being carried out against the MQM. About 20 to 25 workers of the party are picked up on a daily basis," he said.
Another MQM member, Abdul Waseem, said the whole nation should be on the same page to eliminate terrorism from the country. "It's time to adopt a unified approach against terrorists," he said. JUI-F member Maulana Ameer Zaman said that his party has serious reservations on the establishment of military courts; therefore the government should carefully examine the issue.
He said the government also failed in implementing the national security policy presented by the interior minister in the National Assembly. PML-N member Umar Ayub Khan said the attack on the school in Peshawar has united the nation in its resolve to eradicate terrorism from the country.
He said the whole nation is looking towards the Parliament for a strict legislation for the trial of the terrorists. PML-N member Khalil condemned the Peshawar incident and urged the nation to unite on a single point to eradicate the menace of terrorism. "The Peshawar incident has shaken the whole nation as innocent people are being killed without any reason," he said.
Jamaat-i-Islami member Ayesha Syed strongly condemned the Peshawar incident and said that children of the nation have been brutally killed by terrorists. "My country needs peace. The government should take cogent steps to eliminate terrorists," she said. She also questioned the performance of the security agencies, saying the terrorists crossed all checkposts easily to storm the Army Public School. "This is unfortunate that the militants were not challenged by the security agencies on their way to the school," she said.
Aalia Kamran, Abdul Kahar, Shah Jahan, Abdul Ghaffar Dogar, Kishwar Zehra and others also took part in the debate. Earlier, the members from the Fata staged walkout from the House over their grievances on non-initiation of development projects in their areas. Shahji Gul Afridi complained that Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was not taking the FATA members into confidence over development projects and he was running all the affairs like a 'Viceroy Hind.'
