The Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) has foiled an attempt to smuggle 3.5 kg of heroin to Saudi Arabia and arrested a couple of Sargodha at Multan airport. He was identified as Muhammad Aslam Raza, 60, and his wife Nasreen Akhtar, 55, belonged to Sargodha.
Customs inspectors Zia Bhatti and Shafqat Awan said that during the search of luggage they found the walls of a bag extra-ordinary thick. When they tore the bag 3.5 kgs of heroin worth Rs 40 million was recovered from the bag. They informed the Anti-Narcotics Force and both were taken into custody. During the interrogation, according to the ANF official, Maulvi Muhammad Aslam Raza, prayer leader in a Sargodha mosque, told that he was a poor man and he was leading prayer in a mosque of Sargodha. Local landlord offered him for Umrah. The landlord not only got booked their seats but also provided bags and clothes and other expenditures. He said that he was not aware of the presence of heroin. The ANF official said that "we have expanded the circle of investigation to apprehend the real culprits". PIA official Mahar Qadir Bakhsh said that the couple had preferred Multan for leaving for Jeddah instead of Lahore because they were confident they would easily cross all barriers.
