Popular instant messaging service Whatsapp can run into a roadblock if a user switches phone numbers, as the account is tied to a specific number. If you get a new number be careful that you've deregistered the old one, otherwise the new owner of your old number might end up with access to your account, warns German internet portal checked4you.
The best option is to either delete your old account when changing or be sure to register the new number with Whatsapp. Both options are available by going to Account and then Settings. If you plan to switch numbers, be sure to wait until the new number is up and running before deactivating the old one. Providing both numbers simultaneously can lead to accounting confusion.
