To prevent getting watery or reddened eyes from hours sitting at a computer, workers should take regular breaks from the screen, an independent German vision and eyewear education group advises. The group, the Good Vision Advisory Board (KGS), also recommends a number of relaxation techniques for the eyes. One of them, it said, is to stretch your arms out in front of you, hold your raised thumbs about three centimetres apart, focus on them for awhile and then focus on a point in the distance.
Another technique is to lean back in your chair, close your eyes and press your eyebrows together with your fingertips, slowly working your way from the nose side to the ear side. A third technique, the KGS said, is to rub your palms together until they are warm, place them over your eyes with your elbows resting on your desk, and in- and exhale several times. Then remove your hands from your eyes and repeatedly blink.
