The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, took notice on applications received through the Human Rights Cell of the Supreme Court stating that influential mafias have established illegal hydrants openly in the city of Karachi by taking illegal connection, tempering and damaging the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) water pipelines in different parts of Karachi.
It was further stated that not only the growth in installation of illegal hydrants has inexorably damaged the KW&SB mainstream system but these illegal water connections are polluting the clean water and are creating health hazards and environmental problems. Due to this water theft, the water supply is suffering badly and these entities are becoming a challenge for the Sindh government and the KW&SB.-PR
