The poor-friendly step by Punjab Chief Minister Shabaz Sharif for providing affordable houses to low income people has been widely welcomed as more than 60,000 families have applied for allotment of flats under Ashiyana Housing Scheme. This was disclosed by LDA spokesperson here on Tuesday.
Ashiyana Housing Scheme is the largest public welfare project in the history of Pakistan. Thousands of flats will be constructed for the shelter-less families in the provinces under this scheme. 3100 kanal of land situated in the vicinity of Lahore Airport, DHA, Ring Road and Barki Road, has been allocated for construction of ground plus three storey flats under Ashiyana Iqbal Project.
The price of these flats will be recovered in easy and interest-free instalments during a long period of 10 years. The Punjab government will pay the interest on behalf of allotted in order to facilitate the low income people for becoming owners of their own flats. The Punjab government will construct a 150 feet wide road from Barki Road to the Ashiyana Iqbal Project. All utility services like electricity, water supply, sewage, carpeted roads, schools, parks, commercial area and community centre will be provided for residents of these flats which will make their life easy and comfortable.
