Expressing concern over the prolonged closure of education activities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Jamaat-e-Islami provincial Naib Ameer Merajuddin Khan asked the provincial KP government to announce a clear and indubitably scheduled for re-opening of the academic institutions in the province.
He was speaking at a news conference along with Fazalullah Daudzai, Mushtaq Yousafzai, and Jamaat Ali Shah at the press club here on Wednesday.
The JI leader said that all education institutions, including private and government run schools, colleges, and universities, have been remained close for last three-week after the brutal attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar on December 16.
The KP education department, he said, has extended two schedules of vacations, like 21 to 31 December and January 05 to 11. He said all government and private education institutions have remained closed as per scheduled. But, he expressed fear that the authorities were intending to further extend the holiday period till the end of this month (January), which is strongly regrettable.
Merajuddin, who is also Director of Iqra Education System Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said that according to schedule, the merit examinations will start from March 16 next, whereas the period of vacations was extended till January 11, which comprising 22 holidays. But, he said the educational boards neither postponed the examination, nor curtail the course. He said the cricket world cup will be held in the month of February, which could also affect academic activities in the province.
The JI leader said private education institutions took security measures under their limited resources, while the government-run schools, colleges and universities also worked out a comprehensive security plan under the prevailing circumstances.
"Had the police stations and bazaars closed, after the attacks on them," he questioned. He viewed that owing to prolonged closure, the administrations of private education institutions were yet not paid salaries to teachers and other staff, which created great unrest among them.
