Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government has no plan of taking action against religious seminaries and apprehensions in this regard are baseless.
Shahbaz Sharif telephoned Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Secretary General Wafaqul Madaris, Maulana Hanif Jalandhri on Saturday to allay their doubts and apprehensions about the 21st constitutional amendment and assured that religious seminaries would not be targeted. "Neither government has any plan to take action against any seminary nor security personnel would be allowed to take any such action at their own", he assured. The chief minister also issued directives to address the complaints of seminaries. Meanwhile, Shahbaz summoned a meeting of seminaries in the provincial capital on Tuesday to take up the reservations being expressed by various clerics.
