Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Syed Haroon Sultan Bukhari has said that government will launch 'Health Insurance Card Scheme' due to which free treatment facilities will be available to low-income people in government and best private hospitals.
"An amount of Rs 1.75 billion has been allocated for providing free treatment facilities and medicines to the downtrodden people whereas besides facility of dialysis of kidney patients, the budget has been doubled as compared to last year and Rs 600 million have been provided," he said while talking to the delegations of doctors. The Minister said the role of lady health workers and paramedics will be made more effective as 500 mothers out of 10,000 die during pregnancy.
Similarly, 77 babies out of 1,000 die during birth. He said that increasing population is creating social problems, therefore, the government besides creating awareness among the people through population welfare programme, has set up 1,500 family welfare centres, 117 mobile service units, 118 family health clinics and 1,456 social mobilizers for providing facilities to them.
Haroon Sultan Bukhari said that government has started a number of projects with the cooperation of various donors' organizations for providing modern medical facilities to mother and child particularly newly born babies. He said that funds of Rs 1.80 billion have been allocated for providing medicines and treatment facilities to newly born babies whereas three new children hospitals with an amount of Rs 12 billion would be set up in the province. He said that provincial government has provided record funds for health and education sectors for achieving millennium development goals whereas mobile health units will be provided to the districts of South Punjab.
