The law-enforcement agencies have booked 12 people from different parts of the garrison city for interrogating them in connection with Friday's blast. However, the investigation into the deadly suicide attack that occurred on Friday near Imambargah at Chitain Hatain has not yet achieved any major breakthrough. A suicide attacker blew himself up at the gate of the Imambargah Abu Muhammad Rizvi when policemen tried to stop him. At least eight people lost their lives in the blast.
An official said that Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab has constituted a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Karamatullah Malik. The team which includes members from police and intelligence agencies would submit its findings within two weeks, he said.
He said that police has registered an FIR against unknown people under sections 302,324,427 and section 7 of Anti Terrorism Act at Waris Khan police station. The case was registered on a complaint of the custodian of the Imambargah, Ibne Mohammad Rizvi. All Pakistan Shia Action Committee has announced three-day mourning to express grief and sorrow over the deaths of the innocent people.
Meanwhile, security in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad has been put on high alert. "We have taken tough security measures after Friday blast," a senior police official said, adding surprise checking of vehicles was being conducted at the entry and exit points of the city. Moreover, patrolling in both the cities has been further intensified, while special police teams have been constituted by all police stations for effective patrolling in their respective jurisdictions, he added.
Meanwhile, the funeral prayers of Friday night's blast victims were offered at Liaquat Bagh, attended by thousands of people who raised slogans against terrorists and vowed to confront them whatever the consequences. Meanwhile, the FIR of the explosion and subsequent deaths was registered at the Waris Khan police station on Saturday.
