New laws aim to simplify social life, give personal freedom: KP chief minister
KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that basic aim of introducing new laws by the provincial government was to simplify the social life and giving personal freedom and satisfaction to all segments of society and not to create hurdles for any of them.
He asserted that only law abiding and responsible society could march ahead on road to progress and prosperity and considered civilized in comity of nations. He said that our concrete steps for uprooting corruption and bringing transparency in the system would greatly help in increasing the resources and reducing the taxes that would tantamount to providing relief and welfare to the masses.
This he said while chairing meeting of select committee on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Prevention of Conflict of Interest (CoI) Bill 2014 at Shaheed Tahira Qazi Hall of KP Assembly and talking to various delegations of MPAs in Peshawar. The meeting besides Provincial Law Minister Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi, CM Advisor for Industries Abdul Munim Khan, Sikandar Khan Sherpao, Syed Muhammad Ali Shah and other members from treasury and opposition benches was attended by the administrative secretaries and authorities of concerned departments.
The participants welcomed the drafting of this new and unique legislation for discouraging the rampant trend of getting illicit benefits from various government offices. They said such law being experimenting over here for the first time already enforced in developed countries like France and Canada. However, some members while showing their reservations on certain clauses of the draft of the Bill said that it was giving the impression that govt figures would not be able to continue their already existed business or commercial concerns other than their offices.
The Chief Minister clarified that this law would not be allowed to gag the legitimate human needs of running a business but it would aim that no minister, advisor or govt official would give illicit benefits to his own person, family or relatives that related to his office. He said such a candid law would ensure justice and transparency in the society and people from all walks of life would be able to perform their responsibilities with devotion. He constituted a committee under provincial law minister that would have representation from opposition and treasury benches to remove apprehensions of the members and make the draft more comprehensive. The committee would submit its recommendations and amendments in the Bill by next meeting of the select committee.
Pervez Khattak expressed the confidence that the sincere efforts of PTI-led coalition govt would bring about transparency and simplicity in the system, corruption and lethargy in officialdom would be discouraged while honesty and hard work would be properly encouraged in the society. He said such efforts would also help in overcoming the negative trends of ignorance, poverty and extremism in the society while enlightenment, knowledge and creativity based tendencies would get flourished that he said was need of the hour. He reiterated the firm pledge of his govt that tireless efforts for overall development of the province would be continued and its fruits would be made available not to our present but future generations as well. He said that basic aim of our maximum legislation was to ensure continuity of the policies and ensuring that the new governments would not change these policies and laws due to petty political expediencies but would improve performance for public welfare, he concluded.
