Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that total 100,000 students purely on merit will get laptops during current fiscal year in all categories. He disclosed this while talking to various talking to various delegations here on Saturday, disclosed an official. He said the Punjab government has given special attention for the improvement of school education during last six years and 140,000 school teachers had been recruited purely on merit in the province.
He commended the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for launching of free distribution scheme of laptops among matriculate students. According to him, Rs 274 billion will be spent on education sector during the current fiscal year, which is 26.25 percent of the total budget of the province. The Punjab government distributed solar lamps among the 200,000 students during last tenure with a cost of Rs 2.5 billion under Ujala Programme so that load shedding could not disrupt their study.
