The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday authorised three inquiries against Special Assistant to Ex-Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Ex-Secretary Workers Welfare Board, Balochistan and Vice Chancellor and Registrar, Bahuddin Zakariya University, Multan for alleged corruption, misappropriation in the funds and misuse of authority.
The decision to authorise inquiries was taken at the Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of the NAB held under the chairmanship of Chairman NAB, Qamar Zaman Chaudhry at NAB Headquarter. The EBM authorised three inquiries, first against Syed Masoom Shah, Special Assistant to Ex-Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and others. In this case, the accused persons are alleged for corruption, corrupt practices and accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income.
Second against Mumtaz Ali Khan, Ex-Secretary Workers Welfare Board Balochistan and Dr Ameer Muhammad Khan Jogezai, CEO Kidney Centre Quetta and Others. In this case the accused persons are alleged for embezzlement in the procurement of medical equipment and misappropriation in the funds released for Kidney Centre and caused Rs 61 million loss to national exchequer. Third inquiry against Professor Khuwaja Alqma, Vice Chancellor and Malik Munir Hussain, Registrar, Bahuddin Zakariya University Multan (BZU).
In this case the accused persons in connivance with each other illegally opened BZU Lahore Campus without getting approval from the University Syndicate and NOC from Higher Education Commission and misuse of authority. In the process over Rs 200 million funds were collected from intending students, said a press release issued by NAB here. In a case against Syed Ahmed Hussain Shah, Ex-Minister for Industries & Commerce KPK, Officers/Officials of SDA, WAPDA/PESCO, SNGPL and others, the Board decided to re-authorise the inquiry.
In this case the accused persons are alleged for unauthorised use of industrial plots as commercial plots. In another case against authorities of QESCO and PEPCO, the Executive Board Meeting (EBM) decided to further inquire into the matter in detail and submit a report within two weeks. In this case the accused persons are alleged for illegal appointments in QESCO Quetta.
The Board decided to close two inquiries which include inquiry against Mirza Sultan Mahmood Saleem, Director, NAB and inquiry against Muhammad Naseem, Secretary P&D Department, Balochistan due to lack of incriminating evidence. The Executive Board also approved the application of Voluntary Return (VR) of Rs 26 million by five accused persons in case of illegal award of lease of Sports Complex at University Town Peshawar, KPK and ordered to initiate a departmental inquiry against the accused Zaki Ullah, the then Acting Secretary LG&RDD Government of KPK.
Chairman NAB, Qamar Zaman Chaudhry said that NAB is committed to eliminate corruption and corrupt practices through good governance from the country. He directed all the concerned Divisions/Wings of NAB that all the complaints, Inquiries and Investigations be conducted transparently in accordance with law and merit.-PR
