First polio case of year 2015 was surfaced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Saturday. According to Federal Ministry of Health, nine-month-old girl, Rohaida hailing from district Tank of KP was found affected with polio virus. It is the first polio case of the year and during previous year (2014) as many as 303 polio cases were detected across the country.
Despite all out efforts of government and health authorities, spread of polio seems to be uncontrolled due to inappropriate measures for provision of clean drinking water to masses and other factors which help polio virus to nourish. Most of the polio cases during last year were reported in KP and tribal agencies where parents seemed to be reluctant to vaccinate their children or vaccination campaigns were delayed or cancelled due to security threats after attacks on immunization teams.
