The technical faults developed in Pakistan International Airlines' (PIA) plane have finally been removed after remaining grounded for almost 48 hours at Milan Airport. According to sources, the PIA's flight PK-750 failed to re-track its landing gears after taking off from Milan Airport on January 17, 2015 (Saturday). Consequently, the flight captain made an emergency landing at Milan Airport and rescued all passengers.
The sources said that the national flag carrier failed to remove the technical faults immediately, causing it to bear excessive financial burden on account of passengers' overnight accommodations at Milan. When contacted, Hanif Rana, spokesman PIA, confirmed the said incident, saying that the airline as per regulation had borne the accommodation cost of all passengers for a day at Milan.
He said that all passengers had safely reached the Karachi Airport on Sunday, January 18, 2015. He tried to rationalise the delay in removing technical faults from the plane saying that PIA had called engineers from Milan and Paris but they were unable to resolve the issue. Later, the PIA had sent its engineers' team from Karachi, who replaced the faulty part from the plane, he added.
Replying to a question, he said that the PIA despite removing all technical faults from the plane could not lift passengers from Milan Airport. He added that the plane would be given clearance after a proper physical inspection to be conducted by its engineers in Karachi. Moreover, he confirmed that PK-750 had taken off from Milan Airport and would land at Karachi Airport on Monday at PST 2030 hours.
