A team of young talented engineers of Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology who had made their own car would participate in Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2015, scheduled to be held from 26 February to 1 March in Manila, Philippines.
This was stated by members of the team while talking to media here on Sunday. Distinguished officials of Shell Company who visited the GIK Institute were also present on the occasion. The officials inspected the car made by the students. Both students and officials said that total 14 teams would participate from all over Asian countries in one of the big competition in Asia. Total 40 teams from all over Asian countries would display their talent in the contest.
The GIK Institute students had made prototype car which cost Rs 1 million. The cost of urban type car is about Rs 0.7 million, they said. The car made by them could play both with fuel and electricity but its cost is nominal as compare with the consumption of other vehicles. Professor Dr Javed A. Chattha, Pro-Rector Academic is advisor of the seven-member team.
Answering a question, one of the official said that the main objective of the event are: to encourage the young and talented engineers to come forward with new innovation and ideas; reduce the environmental impact and save energy for the coming generations. The Manila competition would be 30th one. In past, the young talent from all-over Pakistan came forward and their contributions and motivation had encouraged us, he said. The GIK Institute team had stood 6th in the previous competition but for the upcoming contest they had improved their car.
Last year, our car covered 205 kilometres distance per kilowatt per hour but for the upcoming marathon our car speed is enhanced to 300 kilometres distance per kilowatt per hours, said Kazi Sher Ahmad, who leads the seven-member team. The main objective of the entire exercise is to send only competent teams to the competition; he said, adding that the past experience had made clear that GIK Institute students are brilliant and hardworking. "Keeping in mind their determination I think they would excel in the upcoming competition. We provide complete support and encourage them to come up with new ideas," he said.
