Divergent trend was witnessed on the local money market on Thursday as the rupee played both sides in terms of the dollar in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee picked up by three-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 100.73 and Rs 100.75 respectively, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee, however, lost 15-paisa against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.35 and Rs 101.55 respectively. It fell by one rupee versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 118.00 and Rs 118.25 respectively, they said.
In the fourth Asian trade, the euro held steady as investors awaited details of a sovereign bond-buying programme that the European Central Bank is seen likely to announce later in the day. Market expectations are sky-high for the ECB to unveil a large-scale programme of quantitative easing.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 61.63, the greenback was at 3.6060 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.2097 in relation to the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee continued slide and lost 15-paisa against the US dollar on the local currency market on Thursday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar was opened on a healthy note and registered gain following fresh buying. At close of trading, the dollar was ended further higher at Rs 101.45 and Rs 101.70 as its buying and selling rate against Rs 101.30 and Rs 101.55 of Wednesday, respectively.
Likewise, the rupee remained weak and was declined against the pound sterling. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 153.55 and Rs 153.80 compared with overnight closing of Rs 153.10 and Rs 153.35, respectively, dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee gained strength against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday.
The dollar opened at Rs 100.75 (buying) and Rs 101 (selling) against last rate of Rs 101 (buying) and Rs 101.25 (selling). It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 100.75 (buying) and Rs 101 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 152 (buying) and Rs 153 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 152 (buying) and Rs 153 (selling).
