All the industrial units operating on gas in the Site industrial area remained closed for the third consecutive day on Thursday, creating a livelihood problem for the labourers associated with them. The affected industrialists apprehended that Pakistan may not achieve its exports targets if the persisting problems such as low gas pressure and water shortage were not resolved without any further delay.
Voicing concern over the persisting low gas pressure, industrialists said that production was being severely hampered as the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has miserably failed to rectify the fault responsible for the low gas pressure. They said that were not only experiencing production loses, but also facing serious problems in maintaining supply chain. On the one hand, the industrialists are incurring huge production losses and, on the other, workers are deprived of their wages for the last three days.
Meanwhile, Site Association Industry's Chairman Jawed Bilwani, has said that industries which had already suffered a lot owing to persisting low gas pressure were now facing a serious crisis following suspension of gas supply. He said that it was essential for the economic growth of the country that the industries must have uninterrupted supply of gas, electricity and water.
Criticising the officials of the SSGC for not ensuring uninterrupted gas supply to the industries, he said that the officials' indifferent attitude would result into collapse of the industries. Accusing SSGC of diverting industrial area's gas to CNG stations, he said that the gas closure plan would, on the other hand, render workers jobless and, on the other hand, create immense difficulties for the export-oriented industries.
