The Directorate of Faculty Development and Internationalisation (DFDI) of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) successfully completed the second phase of Active Citizens Programme 2013-14. To celebrate the occasion a ceremony was held by the British Council and LCWU to showcase the projects carried out by the students and distribute certificates to them.
The mission of the Active Citizens Programme in LCWU is to encourage young people to be socially responsible by developing and delivering sustainable projects on themes such as education, social issues, poverty, information technology, environment, health and hygiene.
LCWU-ACP students have implemented an impressive 90 community uplift social action projects under the supervision of 48 faculty facilitators from 16 departments trained by the British Council. Ciaran Devane, Chief Executive Officer British Council, Adrian Greer, Chief Operating Officer British Council, Stephan Roman, Regional Director South Asia, Shazia Khawar, Regional Director Society, Peter Upton, Director Pakistan British Council, Kevin McLaven, Director Punjab British Council, and Professor Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairperson HEC were attended the ceremony.
Professor Dr Sabiha Mansoor, Vice Chancellor of LCWU stated that community engagement is one of the pillars of the vision of LCWU and the British Council's support in introducing the ACP at LCWU as a pilot programme is a welcome initiative. She further said that the programme has not only introduced the concept of creativity and innovation to the thousands of girls studying at LCWU, but also holds potential to impact their respective households and communities positively.
