The Punjab government has issued notification of 25 new chairmen District Zakat Committees to distribute Zakat funds among deserving families in their respective districts. Addressing to the newly nominated chairmen here on Wednesday Minister for Zakat and Usher, Malik Nadeem Kamran urged them to come up to the confidence expressed by the govt in them and discharge their moral and religious duties with over & above their personal leanings.
He said that more than Rs 3.33 billion would be distributed under various heads of zakat funds during FY 2014-15 whereas the first six-monthly instalment has been distributed. He said that 176 training centres have been working under Punjab Vocational Training Council and their numbers are being further increased. Last year 56,000 students were getting technical education from these training centres, whereas this year, more than 80,000 male and female students will be benefited and will earn livelihood for their families, he added.
He advised the chairmen to meet the philanthropists of their concerned districts and motivate them to pay their zakat and other charity amounts to the govt so that financial assistance could be provided to the maximum deserving people under a co-ordinated strategy.
He stressed upon the chairmen to keep close liaison with district administration and officers of zakat department and contact them immediately in case of any problem with regard to timely distribution of zakat. He asked them to give proposals for further improving the process of collection and distribution of zakat Secretary Zakat and Usher Habib ur Rehman Gilani and Managing Director PVTC Sajid Naseer also gave briefings to the nominated chairmen about their departments Provincial Ministers Begum Zakiya Shahnawaz, Hameeda Waheed ud Din, Mansha Ullah Butt, Chairman Provincial Zakat Council Justice (R) Akhtar Hasan, Parliamentary Secretary Information & Culture Rana Muhammad Arshad, Secretary Zakat & Usher Habib ur Rehman Gilani, Administrator Zakat Muhammad Yousaf Butt and other officers were present on the occasion.
