Completion of old power projects: National Assembly body concerned over delay
The Standing Committee on Water & Power met with Muhammad Arshad Khan Leghari, MNA in the chair here on Tuesday. While giving the briefing on the projects being initiated by the National Transmission and Dispatched Company (NTDC), it was informed that the country is facing power shortage of 5000MW and efforts were underway to reduce the shortfall of Electricity.
It was informed that 1000 to 1200 MW approximately was being added to National Grid with the introduction of new different projects. Hopefully, they would be able to overcome the shortage of electricity by the end of 2017. The Committee expressed concern over the unnecessary delay in completion of old projects of power production which not only causing delay in the introduction of new projects, but adding extra financial burden on the Government exchequer as well.
The Committee directed that ministry may ensure the transparency in the system while giving new connections and entertain the applications on first come first serve basis. Earlier, the Committee was briefly apprised about the efforts made by the management to reduce the shortfall of electricity and problems faced by them in this regards.-PR
