Renowned classical singer of Gwalior Gharana Ustad Ghulam Hussain Shaggan died in Lahore on Tuesday. Ghulam Hassan Shaggan was born in 1928 in Amritsar and later moved to Pakistan in 1947 and settled in Lahore. He gained recognition and started performing more frequently at Radio Pakistan.
He received several awards, including the Pride of Performance in 1988 and Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2000 from the Government of Pakistan. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed grief over the sad demise of classical singer Ustad Ghulam Hussain Shaggan. He prayed for the departed soul and said his death has created a vacuum on classical music. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid has also expressed deep grief over the death of Ustad Ghulam Hussain Shaggan. In a message, he said the classical music will remember tunes of Ustad Shaggan.
