The Department of Meat Science and Technology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Science (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with the Agri-business Support Fund and the USAID organised a week-long "Training of Trainers in Animal Production and Feedlot Cattle Farming." Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the concluding ceremony of the training workshop and distributed certificates among the participants.
Over 30 practitioners from public and private organisations from across the four provinces of Pakistan participated in the workshop. Dr Michael Bradfield, Director of the Agricultural Business, South Africa, and Dr Muhammad Hayat Jaspal, Officer In-Charge of the Department of Meat Science and Technology, UVAS, were the resource persons of the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said that ensuring availability quality meat to consumers is a challenge and the government has taken many initiatives to meet this challenge so that consumers could have access to quality and hygienic meat. He said the university on its part has also taken various initiatives through its Department of Meat Science and is conducting training programmes for the people involved in meat business.
He said that with the increasing demand for export of beef meat, the demand for quality meat is also increasing in the local market, therefore the meat industry people have realised its importance and are improving their knowledge and skills through these trainings to meet the challenges. He said the UVAS will continue to play its role in training of trainers as well as practitioners.
