Corps Commander Karachi Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar on Friday said army, rangers, police and other law enforcement agencies (LEA) are working with complete co-operation to successfully cope with the internal and external threats to country.
He expressed these views at Kotri Army Firing Range in Jamshoro district while addressing the certificate distribution ceremony held after the completion of 4-week counter terrorism training to 60 personnel of Anti Terrorism Force of Hyderabad district police. "It is our duty to be ever ready to cope with these threats," he said adding that he was confident that the joint efforts of the army, rangers and police would eliminate terrorists.
The Corps Commander said the military operation 'Zarb-e-Azb' was successfully progressing in North Waziristan. "The terrorist attacks on school children in Peshawar and innocent people offering prayer in a mosque in Shikarpur show their frustration and defeat," he observed. Lieutenant General Mukhtar said the police training in counter terrorism skills was also part of the larger anti-terrorism operation.
According to him, the policemen learned counter terrorism, search, raid, use of various weapons, sniper shooting and other skills during the training. He assured that complete co-ordination with the police regarding training of the personnel would continue. Speaking on the occasion, the Inspector General of Sindh Police Ghulam Hyder Jamali expressed his gratitude to the army for training the policemen.
"The skills of our policemen are traditional because during their training they learn to combat only conventional crime with traditional ways. However, the menace of terrorism requires special training in counter terrorism techniques and the army can impart these skills in the policemen," he said. He informed that he had requested the Corps Commander to arrange training for more policemen in Karachi, Hyderabad and Pano Aqil, Ghotki district.
The police would send the policemen below the age of 30 years for the counter terrorism training, he added. "We are going through extra ordinary times being faced with terrorism, extremism, militancy, target killings in Karachi, extortion and other crimes," he observed. Later, the Corps Commander distributed certificates among the best trainees. The best Physical Efficiency Certificate was awarded to constable Faisal Mehmood Shah, the Best Team Craft to Constable Azmat Hussain, the Best Firer to Abdul Qadeer and the overall Best Trainee to Zainul Imam.
