USAID's $155 million Sindh Basic Education Programme is being implemented by Sindh government with an additional $10m contribution. Sindh government is constructing 120 well-equipped schools across seven districts of northern Sindh, including Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Dadu and Qambar Shahdadkot and five towns of Karachi - Lyari, Keamari, Orangi, Bin Qasim and Gadap.
According to an official statement, the contract for package of schools in Karachi to be reconstructed under USAID Sindh Basic Education Program has recently been awarded to Messrs Badar Engineering Works. The five government schools under this package include Government Boys Secondary School (GBSS) in Gadap Town's Dumba Village Gadap town, GBSS in Bin Qasim Town's Cattle Colony, Government Boys Elementary School (GBES) in Gadap Town's Waryo Gabol, Government Boys Primary School, Yousaf Goth, Gadap town and Government Boys Primary School in Bin Qasim Town's Sindhi Jamaat Co-operative Housing Society.
The first Memorandum of Understanding was signed for reconstruction of GBSS Damba Village in Gadap Town on February 4, 2015. The MoUs signing ceremonies in the remaining schools will be accomplished by February 12, 2015 between school management committees and Badar Engineering Works. It would be facilitated by the Community Mobilisation Programme (CMP). The new school buildings will have 8 to 12 classrooms, science and computer laboratories, library, staff room, clinic and a playground with gated boundary wall.
The CMP is facilitating school management committees comprising head teachers, parents and elders of the community to sign MoUs with contractor for reconstruction of five government schools located in Gadap and Bin Qasim towns of Karachi. Sources are of the view that such efforts would create conducive teaching and learning environment and help increase students' enrolment in primary, middle and secondary schools.
