Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Sunday formally asked former Punjab governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar to join his party. Sarwar, who recently quit the job of Governor Punjab over what he said "a failure to achieve what he had set out to do" called on PTI chairman at the latter's Bani Gala residence where the two leaders discussed the political situation of the country.
According to a PTI spokesperson, the one-on-one meeting lasted for an hour in which the PTI chairman extended a formal invitation to the former Governor Punjab to join PTI.
"The meeting was candid and Imran Khan extended an invitation to him to join PTI... he [Chaudhry Sarwar] is expected to announce his decision very soon," said PTI spokesperson.
On January 29, 2015, Chaudhry Sawar made headlines by tendering his resignation as Governor Punjab. Some media reports claimed that he was asked by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to resign following his statements against the government policies. But in a press conference he denied such reports.
